Aloha! Did you know that Disney has an amazing resort on the Hawaiian island of Oahu? This resort gives you the best of both worlds–you can have your Disney fix while enjoying the beautiful beaches and waters of Hawaii! There is so much to share about this resort that I will have to write several articles about all of the things to enjoy while you’re here. Here are just a few highlights for you.
Aulani is located on the southwestern portion of Oahu, in Ko Olina. This resort is about 30 minutes from the Honolulu airport, and about 45 minutes from Waikiki Beach. There are 351 hotel rooms, including 31 suites. There are 481 Disney Vacation Club units, including 19 grand villas. In short, there are rooms for every family! We had a 2 bedroom suite to accommodate our family of 6. We had one bedroom with a king bed, one bedroom with 2 queen beds, and a pull-out sofa (that was VERY comfortable according to my girls!) in the main living area.
There are 2 main restaurants. ‘Ama’Ama is the upscale restaurant with great views of the ocean. Makahiki is the buffet restaurant that includes characters for breakfast and some dinners. We ate at Makahiki, and everyone loved it! The crab legs were amazing, and we all walked away stuffed!! There are also several options for a quick meal around the
pool. The coconut shrimp from Mama’s Snack Stop was fabulous! Ulu Cafe has some great options for breakfast, lunch and dinner, and even has your favorite Mickey treats.
Aunty’s Beach House is the must-do stop for the kids! They are checked in similarly to the Disney Cruise Line, and will be given a special Keiki band (similar to a magic band). Parents can check their children in and out for the many activities scheduled throughout the day. There is so much to say about Aunty’s Beach House, so check back for an entire article dedicated to that topic.
For family time, there is so much to do around the resort! There are two water slides to enjoy, and the lazy river was my favorite. I loved just moving around in my tube! There was only one time that we had to wait for a tube, and it was only for a few minutes. The beach chairs around the pool did seem to go quickly, but we were able to get chairs each day we were there after a few minutes. And there were plenty of chairs on the beach!
Rainbow Reef is Aulani’s private snorkeling area. There were some beautiful Hawaiian fish here!! There is a viewing area for those that don’t want to snorkel too. The humuhumunukunukuāpuaʻa, which is the Hawaiian state fish, was my favorite. Rainbow Reef is an extra cost, and you can get a one-day pass or a pass for your entire stay. There are also paddleboards to rent, and complimentary boogie boards and sand toys for Aulani’s guests to enjoy the beach.
