At least once a week I have a client ask me when cruising is going to resume. I wish I could say
they will start tomorrow! Just this week more cruise lines extended their cancellations into the
summer. Unfortunately, it will take some time for the CDC and cruise lines to work together to
ensure cruising can be done safely.
So, where can you go to get the same feeling like a cruise? Maybe an all-inclusive resort is a
right substitute! Cruises and resorts aren’t identical, but they do have many aspects in common.
First, let’s talk about all the ways that they are different:
- Location – You’re not on a beautiful, amazing ship. I’ll be honest, some of the ships I’ve
seen are more elaborate than a 5-star hotel. They are works of art! You will, however, not
have to worry about the motion of the ocean as you attempt to walk on the ship. Best of
all, you won’t get seasick! - Ports, Ports, and more Ports – A cruise is a great way to see the world. You can wake up
at a different Caribbean island each day. My favorite part of a cruise is visiting multiple
countries, but only having to unpack once. At a resort, you’re only visiting one
destination, but you can spend time enjoying it. You don’t have to rush back to the pier in
fear of being left behind! - Passports – When going to an all-inclusive resort you will need a passport. Your birth
certificate won’t be enough (unless you are visiting the US Virgin Islands).
The similarities, however, far exceed the differences. If it weren’t for the fact that your feet are
on solid ground, you might not notice much of a difference. Let’s look a little closer:
- Dining – Both include as much food as you can eat. At a resort, however, you can eat at
all the specialty restaurants without an extra fee. - Drinks – You won’t go thirsty on a cruise, but you may not be able to drink what you
want without paying. At a resort, all your drinks including soda, coffee, and alcoholic
beverages are already included. - Activities – On a ship, you can find ice-skating, rock walls, go-carts, and swimming pools. While you may not get the same activities at a resort, you won’t get bored. Most offer kayaks, paddleboards, playgrounds, and elaborate swimming pools to enjoy. Don’t forget, the beach is always available too!
- Hospitality – Cruises are known for their attentive and welcoming crew from around the world. Even though the staff may be comprised entirely of locals, you still get the same level of quality service. You can tell that the staff is happy to have you there.
Like cruise lines, each all-inclusive resort has its own personality. You want to find the right one
for you. Contact your Wishes & Dreams travel consultant to see what resort will be your best fit!
